I chose the first of my three symbols for my past as Fireworks because that’s what 2020 has been. You don’t know what color the fireworks are going to be, but the only thing that you do know is that there are going to be explosions. Fireworks are like the past year of 2020 because this year we didn’t know what was going to happen but we did know that something was going to happen because of how the year started off. I chose my second of three symbols as Washi Tape (A.K.A. decorative tape). I chose Washi Tape because it was something that my friends and I bonded over at my middle school and gave us something to talk about and share with one another. Washi Tape comes in all different patterns and colors, it can be a marble pattern, zig zag, polka dots, floral, etc. For my last of three past symbols I chose a couple of Music Notes because throughout the years, (and 2020 most of all) Music has helped me focus when I’m stressed or tired. Another reason that I chose music was because I‘ve always enjoyed listening to music. My entire life my Dad has always had music playing in the car and at the house.
For my first symbol representing the present, I chose only one Music Note because I’ve sort of stopped listening to several genres (and bands/artists). Instead I have ruled out some of my interests in music and I have selected only a couple genres now. For example, I used to listen to soundtracks, rap, boy-bands, pop, hip-hop, acapella, and K-pop. Now I really only listen to pop and boy-bands. A Camera is something that I’ve always had a connection to, that is why I chose a Camera as one of my present symbols. I love photography and I recently started posting my photos to Instagram, along with getting recognized by some other small photographers. I don’t have a real camera, just the camera on my phone. Though currently/in the present I am saving up for one. I love the Holidays, so I chose a child dressed as a ghost as my final symbol to represent the present. I chose that symbol because in this crazy year of everything going wrong, I finally appreciate how much holidays do for people. What I mean by that is, holidays (Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s day) are always more fun and meaningful when you can spend them with the people in your life and that’s a lot harder to do this year. Personally, I don’t know what the future holds, so I chose a Question Mark for my first symbol of the future. I think that based on everything that happened in 2020, it’s fair to say that there is no accurate prediction yet for what 2021 will look like. Although my hopes for the future are high. I hope that we can go back to school, not have to wear masks, and that there will not be as much fighting between communities of all kinds. As I said in the paragraph about how a Camera relates to my present self, it also relates to my future self. For example, something that I said in the last paragraph was that “ I don’t have a real camera… Though currently/in the present I am saving up for one,”. I can relate this to my future because by saving up for a camera I am predicting that I am going to get one in the future. I chose a Microphone for my last symbol for the future. The reason that I chose this symbol is because I like to sing to myself in my room, and one of my hopes for the future is that I don’t give up singing even if it is just to myself. I think that another factor that plays into music and why I like to sing is because of something that I said in the last paragraph about how my Dad has always put music on a phone or speaker when we are at home or in the car. So I’ve grown up around music |
